Privacy Policy
Effective date: [EFFECTIVE_DATE]
Aha Math ("Aha Math," "we," "us," or "our"), operated by [YOUR_LEGAL_NAME / BUSINESS], provides a guided math-tutoring service for families. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices parents have. We designed this service to be safe and calm for kids — that shapes every decision below.
1. Children's privacy (COPPA)
Aha Math is intended for use by children under the direction of a parent or legal guardian. Only a parent or guardian may create an account.
- Parental consent. When a parent creates an account, they consent, on behalf of the child(ren) they add, to the collection and use of the information described in this policy. For paid subscriptions, the payment transaction serves as an additional method of verifiable parental consent.
- What we collect about a child. Only a first name or nickname, an age or grade, and the current math course. We also collect the math problems and chat messages exchanged during tutoring sessions so the coach can help and so the parent can review history.
- What we never collect from a child. No child email address, no last name, no home address, no phone number, no precise geolocation, no persistent contact information.
- Photos of worksheets. If a child uploads a photo of a math problem, the image is used solely to read the math on the page. We do not use photos for facial recognition or any biometric purpose.
- No advertising to children. We do not run ads and we do not use behavioral advertising or ad-tracking technologies.
- No sale or sharing. We do not sell or share children's personal information with third parties for their own marketing or profiling purposes.
- Parent rights. A parent may review, correct, or delete their child's information at any time by writing to [YOUR_SUPPORT_EMAIL]. A parent may also refuse further collection by deleting the learner from the family dashboard, which removes that learner's profile and tutoring history.
2. Information we collect from parents
- Account information. Parent email address and authentication credentials.
- Subscription information. If a parent upgrades to a paid plan, our payment processor collects the payment details needed to charge the subscription. We store only non-sensitive metadata (plan status, renewal date, last four digits when provided by the processor) — never full card numbers.
- Support communications. Messages a parent sends to us and our replies.
3. How we use information
- To personalize tutoring to the learner's grade, age, and current course.
- To show the parent their family's tutoring history from the dashboard.
- To operate, secure, and improve the service.
- To process subscription payments and prevent fraud.
- To respond to parent questions and support requests.
- To comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not use children's information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell personal information.
4. Service providers we rely on
We share limited information with a small number of vendors solely to run the service. Each is contractually restricted from using data for their own purposes.
- AI model provider — powers the tutoring conversations. Math problem text and images are sent so the coach can respond.
- Hosting and database provider — stores account, learner, and session data.
- Payment processor — handles paid-plan billing for parents.
5. Retention
We retain family and learner information for as long as the parent maintains an account. When a parent deletes a learner, that learner's profile and tutoring history are removed from active systems and are purged from routine backups within a reasonable period. When a parent deletes their account, all associated learners and history are removed on the same basis. Aggregated, de-identified data may be retained for service quality and analytics.
6. Security
We use industry-standard measures — including encryption in transit, access controls, and least-privilege database policies — to protect family information. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorized access and misuse.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal information. Contact [YOUR_SUPPORT_EMAIL] to exercise any right.
8. International use
Aha Math is operated from and stores information in the United States. By using the service you understand that information may be processed in the United States and in the regions where our service providers operate.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material we will notify parents by email or in-app notice before they take effect.
